Santa Clara County

Santa Clara County [1] comprises the major portion of that Northern California region recognized around the world by its nickname Silicon Valley. In the post-WW2 era, Santa Clara County grew as an agricultural region, with apricot or cherry orchards dotting its wide open spaces. Few orchards are left today, as most of the county has become industrialized around the technology revolution of the last forty years of the 20th century.

Stay safe

Be careful to check for ticks [3] after hiking in fields in the bay area. There is a high rate of lyme disease transmission in the Bay Area. If a bulls' eye rash develops at the tick bite site, immediately seek medical help and treatment with antibiotics.

Get out

Santa Clara County offers a number of parks and open spaces, mostly in the hills surrounding the crowded Santa Clara Valley. For information on the parks, hiking trails and campsites, see http://www.parkhere.org
